DeosTower Remote Desktop Connection
Overview
In order to reduce the time it takes to perform certain tasks as a remotely located employee, the DeosTower computer has been made available to provide a remote employee "on-site" network access for some common functions. These functions include:
- Customer installs
- Performing a "Deos Build" (i.e., running the Deos2Wise script)
- Anytime one needs to move data from one computer on the Phoenix LAN to another computer on the Phoenix LAN.
Logging In
Remote Desktop Connection software (also available for Mac), comes with XP. You will find it under:
- start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Remote Desktop Connection.
- Launch Remote Desktop Connection
- Connect to deostower.ddci.com
- Login using your DDC-I Windows domain account/password
Logging Out
Be sure to use "Log Off" and not "Disconnect" when you are finished with the Remote Desktop Connection ("Disconnect" leaves you logged-in, and causes confusion for future users).
User Notes
- The first time you connect, Windows will create your user folders (My Documents, etc.).
- The Team's desire is to share this machine across multiple users (due to the Windows Domain login). Here are some common folders, their contents and intended use:
- c:\cygwin (a Deos Maintainer's install of our current development environment)
- c:\DDC-I-<customer-delivery-name> (a "native" install of DDS)
- c:\dds-media (current installation media being used by current Deos customers)
- c:\installed-software (installation sources of software that has been added - post SHH - to this machine)
- c:\OpenArbor-<customer-delivery-name> (The workspace for the "native" install of DDS)
- c:\scm (local copy of our SVN repositories)
Note: The root of the C: drive is being mirrored at linux03:lhome\deos_tower. This can be useful for using RSYNC to get a local copy of any of the above.
Using rsync
According to the rsync homepage, "rsync is an open source utility that provides fast incremental file transfer." Use rsync to quickly copy a customer's media from DeosTower to your machine! The rsync download and instructions are found on the rsync homepage.
