Electrostatic Discharge Procedures

Overview

This page encompasses our Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) prevention guidelines. These guidelines are necessary to prevent ESD induced damage to customer and commercial electronic devices within the Target Farm.

Guidelines

• Ensure electronic devices are transported within ESD safe packing materials. ESD preventative "static bags" are available in the supply cabinet.

• Use an ESD mat, and wrist strap connected to a grounded plane when working on electronic devices. An ESD mat and wrist strap are provided in the supply cabinet.

• When reconfiguring electronic devices, e.g. connecting or disconnecting an emulator, use a grounded ESD preventing wrist strap. Ensure the metal part of the strap is connected to bare skin, and that the alligator clip is connected to a grounded plane. An ESD approved wrist strap is available in the supply cabinet.
