Mitel Phone
Overview
The organization uses the Mitel 5224 IP Phone.
Communication Initialization
When the IP phone first powers on, it will attempt to contact the home office telephone server via the network. It does this by knowing the home office server's IP address. In order for it to know this IP address, you'll need to program it into the phone's FLASH memory. You only need to do this once, or whenever the home office IP address changes.
To do this, execute the following procedure:
- Unplug the Ethernet cord from the back of the unit and let it power down.
- Plug the Ethernet cord back into the unit and immediately press and hold down the 7 button until you see the message in the next step.
- When the screen prompts you with "CONFIG TELEWORKER?", select "Yes".
- When the screen prompts you with "Delete" or "New", select "New".
- When the screen prompts you with the old TeleWorker computer IP address, enter the Mitel Teleworker Server IP address, then press the Up Volume button.
- The unit will then save the changes and reboot itself after which it should connect.
Feature Configuration
If inside the DDC-I network, and using Microsoft Internet Explorer, one can configure some phone features by visiting ddciphones (requires IE).
There is also a phone user manual and voice mail user manual.
If inside the DDC-I network, Stephen Hunter's description can be found at http://intranet/info.html
If you want to program buttons to call someone, the magic phrase is "Speed Call Keys".
Your Assistant
This is a client application that runs in Windows, and can be used to augment your Mitel phone experience.
Hang Up Button
By default, whenever your phone rings, Your Assistant will steal the input focus and pop up a window. So, if busy in a text editor let's say, and a call comes in, your very next key press may perform an inadvertent phone operation such as hanging up on your caller.
This is very annoying, so to disable it:
From the Your Assitant window:
- Select from menu bar Tools - Configuration
- In the new window that pops up, select Call Notification in the left pane then
- Uncheck the two rightmost columns of Answer and Dial check boxes.
Resize UC Window
The Mitel Unified Communictor window is conveniently restricted to only allow resize in the horizontal dimension. If for some hard to fathom reason, you wish to change the height of the window, drag one of the sub "boxes", e.g., "People" out of the window, resize it, then put it back.
