VMWare Server Ubuntu
Instructions for how to use an Ubuntu Linux virtual machine that is running on the DDCI ESX VMWare server.
Getting A Machine
The machines are created by DDCI IT staff following the VMWare_Ubuntu/Build_The_VM_Image instructions and come "ready to use".
Request a VM be created for you by sending an email to mailto:klew@ddci.com:
Please create a docker VM image on ESX for me.
Accessing the Machine
You will get the name/IP address of the machine when it is created.
To login you can use Remote desktop (RDP) to access the GUI, or you can ssh into the machine and use a command line.
As part of your first login you may see Authentication Required for the user oem to make color management. Password is ddci.
As part of your first login you should run (from a terminal):
ddci-vm-fixup
The fixup script enables samba (windows file sharing) and does some user specific config of RDP and the GUI to make things faster.
Where to put stuff
On your first password, the Keyring password windows comes up, please choose and document a keyring password Enter twicer and hit Continue.
On your virtual machine you should check sources out of SCM into your home directory on the VM. For example:
cd mkdir scm; cd scm svn co -N https://deos.ddci.com/scm/Deos --username=$USER@ddci.com cd Deos svn up --parents maintainer-tools/docker/branches/mainline
You can connect to the VM as if it were a file server, e.g., to mount your VM's home directory from your windows workstation.
