The Satellite Landing System (SLS) is made up of two products, each serving a different market.

The first is the Ground-Based Regional Augmentation System (GRAS) for GPS Air Navigation. GRAS is a ground based augmentation system. It provides wide area navigational aide serving enroute, terminal & APV, differential GPS service. It is a proposed international standard and serves in the same capacity as the United States' Wide Area Augmentation System WAAS.

The second product is known as Ground-Based Augmentation System (GBAS) - note the missing "Regional." It is used as a Local Area Differential GPS Precision Landing System. It also serves positioning within the Terminal Area. It is often referred to as Local Area Augmentation System.

Each product's main computation engine is the Differential Corrections Processor, or DCP. The DCP is a computing platform containing several I/O channels, an Intel Pentium M processor, RAM, and Flash.

NOTE: "Certification Candidate" release made on 13 Feb 08. Not all verification steps have been completed on this component, so there is risk that the remaining verification steps could uncover a limitation. The customer (specifically Chris Pow) has agreed to accepting this risk. The motivation for making this release prior to the completion of all verification steps is that it enables SQA activities to begin (i.e., we hope this helps shorten the delivery schedule).
